Wait – so when bullies are allowed to protest at soldier’s funerals it’s “free speech” but when someone doesn’t like what the President says it’s not free speech? Seems like that is the point of the signs isn’t it?
I live in Washington State and I am definitely a Conservative and I can say that I am shocked and surprised that the state has decided to go against the Feds on this. Washington state has a majority of Liberals and votes in lots of liberal politicians. These signs are terrific but honestly, I will be real surprised to see them last. Our governor and politico are boot lickers to Obama. Time will tell.

Take a close look. These have gotta be faked. All the ones with him on the left side all have the very same tree in the background. If they were spread along the highway, as in the Burma Shave signs, they should have varying backgrounds. Same for the ones with him on the right. I first became suspicious at the first few sentences about the Fed and the State. The Feds can dictate what is ON the right of way and the adjacent land. The state can legislate the size and distance from a highway that signs can be posted, in the public driver’s safety. But, most comments seem to be pointed at political leanings of the writer.

Just because they swap out the signs that go within (therefore varying the messages) doesn’t mean they’re fake. If you look you can clearly see the wires and hooks that are used to raise and lower the new signs into place. However, it still begs the question as to where exactly this ONE sign is located, due to regulations like the ones you mentioned, since no, it’s obviously not a succession of signs like the Burma Shave analogy.

Danielle, sadly this President has no clue what it’s like to be in the military and has forgotten what our military has done for our country. He’s never served so how could he know. Can anyone give me an actual cite to the federal government’s alleged petition to have the signs removed? I agree that the signs are a legitimate expression under the first amendment — In fact, I LOVE THEM, AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUT SOME UP HERE IN EAST TENNESSEE. However, I would like a citation to the alleged petition. Any ideas?

This might fly on Bill Mahr’s show or in a Michael Moore movie but sadly for the Obama faithful he(premier Obama)has proven time and time again just how much disdain he has for our nation’s founding, Constitution, and core beliefs.
Bush was not perfect. He drifted too close to the left in his second term even though liberals think he was so radically conservative. But for all of his flaws there is no doubt that he loves his country deeply unlike Obama who wears his anger towards America on his sleeve……like most liberals. Bush isn’t president anymore. Give it up. And by the way, Obama hasn’t closed Guantanamo like he said he would. We need MORE prisons for terrorists IMO! Only a liberal would have a problem with a resort that we call a detention center. Those dirt bags have a better life than they ever had in their third world countries. Does anyone know where the sign or signs, are displayed? Are they on private land adjacent to the interstate, or are they within the interstate right of way?
There are rules about where you can put signs near the highway, regardless of the message.
Facts, anyone? A picture showing the placement of the signs would be great. Also, any copy of the purported Fed direction to remove, to Washington state?
Itlooks like the same sign post alright… BUT, they are interchangable placards(?). I love them and I’m glad to see that we OKIES are not alone in our distain!
I believe those billboards are disgusting and an embarrassment to the state of washington. Not all people feel that way about their president, only the Hamiltons and lewis county, which has always been republican. The right of free speech should not allow people to smear the president or anyone else for that matter. There are a lot of people that I do not like, but I have enough class not to put my feelings on a billboard. That billboard has been there for many many years and I for one wish it would come down!!!

You can complain about Bush and Guantanamo, but Obama signed another order to keep it open. Bush-bashers complained about liberties being stripped with the Patriot Act, yet they fall completely silent in discussions about NDAA which Obama signed. NO LONGER DOES AN AMERICAN HAVE A RIGHT TO A SPEEDY TRIAL OR A TRIAL BY A JURY OF PEERS. Furthermore, NDAA allows our military to make arrests on our soil. Obama has done far worse than anything Bush had done.
Obama has one goal, take down this country and all his actions are right on track. First force a multi trillion dollar package down congress throat with out debate, second empower the UN with control of our armed forces, then empower HILLARY to give away our gun rights at the UN. All counties are getting fed up supporting the American greed in producing money that the world market must absorb because the dollar is the world standard. not for long, it is soon to be replaced and when that happens our dollar will be worth nothing! the next great power is China with its 200 million person armed force, most of the worlds mfg, don’t believe? check how many things are made in China. Obama is allowing Chinese troops to be trained in Texas and China has a large attack force in southern Mexico, which is why US troops were recently deployed to our southern border. we no longer have our freedoms under our constitution, Obama’s actions show no respect for our country or for our people.

Im no politician but I will say this. Yes we have freedom of speech so use it. On another note why do we blame the president for everything? WE THE PEOPLE have done more harm to this country than any one president we have had. Let’s start checking ourselves before we point all the blame on one man. If you don’t like it run for office.

It has been suggested that it is the peoples fault that is to blame for the troubles in this country.They voted these candidates in and they can vote them out. True enough. But what has that to do with anything. This country is a ( republic ). Therefor, we the people have every right, indeed an expectation to have confidence in the fact our elected officials will do , and comport them selves correctly. It is in fact the law makers, State and federal, that have put this country in the dire straights it finds ones self now. Has anyone ever considered just how many so called laws are made each and every year. Well over 10s of thousands. And thats just the states. Add to that the laws past by the the Congress, and you have a nightmare proliferation of laws that no one, and I do mean, no one, can have the possibility to comprehend, let alone understand. The only thing I can see united, about the United States Of America, is in it’s ability to muster a military from all 50 states. And if it wasn’t for our military, The face of our country would be very different from what it is now. But at this point in time, we have our own government, suing, it’s own citizens, for perceived wrongs committed by its own people, on itself. To mealy say that our government has gotten out of hand is the mother of all stupidity. So Ill say again. It is not the people that are wrong here. It is in fact our own government the has the responciblity to get it right. RET

I too hate to see a president acting so educated. We all know that education is bad, it just makes a guy seem so elitist, as though an education makes him better than the uneducated.
Lacking mature debate as an option, I guess we need to use baser methods of insulting him.
I used to live in Bellingham, WA. I would love to see these signs in EVERY state, but I fear that, even with all that, Obama will just declare military rule; his most recent Executive Order that’s in line with the NDAA allows that.
He also told a Russian he’ll be “re-elected.” So I don’t think Obama’s going to give up the presidency.
I can only hope that, one, the U.S. Supreme Court oveturns Obamacare, and that, second, Obama’s NDAA and Executive Order are reversible. Because all I can see now for the future of the USA is hardship worse than the Great Depression and tyranny.
But what can we do? How do we get back our America?
I mean, have opinions been as divided as they were just before the Civil War? Or is revolution not even a possibility anymore? I don’t mean an armed revolution, but one of a consciousness that (1) recognizes that the America we’re losing is what gave us our freedoms to be who we are, and (2) we the people HAVE the power to stop what’s happening IF we can figure out how to work together.

It is my understanding that these signs are on private property and are maintained by private funds.
I also understand that there has been an attempt to take these signs down a while back and that matter went all the way to the Supreme Court and the signs were upheld as free speach and legal.
Yes I would like to see or hear from anyone as to the Federal request or document, asking the state to remove them or Federal funds will be witheld?

Do NOT think you’re safe within your own constitution.
The United Kingdom used to be famous for it’s freedom of speech and many hundreds of thousands of people died to protect this, along with other freedoms. The British people no longer enjoy the right to free speech because of government intervention and the PC brigade. Some of the laws forbidding freedom of speech crept in without notice so I would urge all Americans to protect your rights as free men and women.
An example of little known U.S. laws is the one that forbids a person to apply through the green card waiver programme if they, their parents or grandparents etc were English. Any other nationality is OK except English. When did that happen? Keep an eye on the ‘creeping’ laws Americans and protect what is yours by right. Remember, freedom is not free, someone had to die for it.

This looks like a Photoshop job. The author:
1. Uses the same vanishing point, but reverses it so the pictures look different,
2. Varies the hue but keeps the size of the face relative to the rest of the picture,
3. Uses the same tree in more than one photo,
4. Misspells the message on one of the signs,
5. Distorts the sign to a different vanishing point than the letters in the text, and
6. Takes a picture of a sign on the left side of a divided highway.
Was this piece originally posted on April 1st? These “anomalies” remind me of an artist who paints reproductions of masterpieces, but plants something in the scene’s background to discredit its authenticy. One of his paintings was a copy of “Haystacks” with a small tractor in the distant field. I wonder if the original author of this piece was that oriental master Fu Ling Yu. I believe Schneider Von Dipstick does his picture framing.
Washington State is one of the most highly concentrated “blue” State in the USA, just like its southern neighbor, California. Texas is the only State that reserved the option to secede within its articles of Statehood. If Washington State decided to secede, it would legally become an act of sedition. That is a very bad thing from the perspective of a criminal lawyer.
All of you out there need to look again at those signs, they are taken at different angles and time of the year. And all I want to know is “WHERE I CAN GET ONE MADE?” If someone told me to take a sign down on my own property, they better be a running for the hills to hide. I have seen these signs many times traveling up I-5 to Seattle. They are changed from time to time to reflect what’s currently going on. I’ve always got a kick out of them. I admire the person doing this. Shows you how Obama operates though. Trying to bully the state of Washington into bullying the person for exercising his right to free speach. Obama’s track record on observing the constitution hasn’t been good and this is just another example.
