When the wolves and jackals threaten and attack, the lambs go silent.
So it is with Western journalists when the Palestinian Authority and Hamas threaten and arrest, and their editors comply.
It’s the silence of the media lambs.
Well, not exactly silence. The lambs turn their attention and make noise about a softer, more liberal, and compliant target – Israel.
They do so to appease and flatter the wolves in the vain hope that this will allow them access to the Palestinian leadership, and avoid punishment from the Palestinians. They appeal to them by featuring critical articles and reports on Israeli “crimes” and “offenses” to show the wolves and jackals how compliant they are.
They think that by offering the meat of Israel it will make the Palestinian wolves become vegetarians and not eat them.
It does not, however, prevent their colleagues being threatened and attacked. Nine journalists have been arrested by the Palestinian Authority recently for exposing corruption or being critical of their leadership.
The director of Radio Bethlehem is awaiting trail for defamation which brings a two year prison sentence. His crime was to criticise the Bethlehem Health Department which is run by the PA.
And that’s the tip of the iceberg.
Why can’t we hear the bleating of the Western media lambs? Here is a double story for them to get their chops into. One of Palestinian corruption and abuses of freedoms. The other is the persecution of their braver colleagues within Palestinian society who are prepared to speak up and write about the crimes of their leaders.
Khaled Abu Toameh wrote on his Facebook page,
“A campaign of intimidation, harassment, pressure, threats and boycotts has made it impossible for an Arab journalist to work in the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories.”
Intimidation and threats are the only way that Western journalists are allowed to present biased reports from Ramallah and Gaza.
A Senior PA official told Khaled abu Toameh, “Even the Jews at Haaretz behave themselves and for that they are rewarded with interviews of PA President Mahmoud Abbas.”
Funny! We never heard about that from Western journalists. Apparently, they only have the woolly courage to come down on Israel, where journalistic freedoms are zealously protected.
Bah!!!
