Simple Suggestions Sound Serious

What is Occam’s Razor?

According to the physicists at the University of California, Riverside Occam’s (or Ockham’s) razor is a principle attributed to the 14th century logician and Franciscan friar William of Ockham.  Ockham was the village in the English county of Surrey where he was born.
The principle states that “Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily.”

Many scientists have adopted or reinvented Occam’s Razor, as in Leibniz’s “identity of observables” and Isaac Newton stated the rule: “We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances.”
The most useful statement of the principle for scientists is “when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better.”

This is the one that is generally used on the wall-to-wall news shows which so often describe our world for those who are information junkies and current event addicts so this is the one I will go with today.

Our ruling Elites try to convince us that America’s problems are too complex for we mere mortal taxpayers to understand.  They want us to allow them and their acolyte bureaucracy to decide everything behind a veil and then hand down their infallible decrees on stone tablets from Olympus on the Potomac.

This arcane process raises the question, “If the running of our government is too complex for us to understand how can we expect low information voters to choose who is best to do when we cannot even know what or how needs to be done?”  If this is truly the case than we have reached the limit of the American experiment, and government of the people by the people and for the people does not work.

As the Historian of the Future, as someone who has spent more than fifty five years studying and thinking about History, Political Science and current events I believe this seeming conundrum is an illusion.  I believe we should apply Occam’s Razor to what remains of our social contract to preserve what is left of our heritage.

Here are what I believe to be simple solutions to the threads the Lilliputians are using to bind the American Gulliver to an express to oblivion.

First, jettison the Empire to save the Republic.  Currently the United States has armed forces in over 130 countries.  We’re committed to defend most of these countries against aggression.  Where were these allies on 9-11?  Where were they in Afghanistan?   Why do we have treaties binding us to go to war to defend those who refuse to support us when we’re attacked?  If these policies are counter-productive are there any alternatives?

Close the foreign bases and bring our troops home.  Station them on the border to protect us from the on-going invasion of illegal immigrants who’re overloading our systems.  If we need to project American power use the carrier battle-groups designed for that purpose.  Protect America and rebuild our infrastructure.  When asked what to do with the American Military after World War I Will Rogers said, “Get ’em all home, add to their number, add to their training, then just sit tight with a great feeling of security and just read about foreign wars. That’s the best thing in the world to do with them.”  Jettison the Empire to save the Republic!

Second, declare our energy independence.  Did any President ever have an energy policy which effectively dealt with the problems of oil production and supply?  Did it work?

Reagan said, “The best answer, while conservation is worthy in itself, is to try to make us independent of outside sources to the greatest extent possible for our energy.”

Ronald Reagan also said, “Our national energy plan should not be a rigid set of production and conservation goals dictated by Government. Our primary objective is simply for our citizens to have enough energy, and it is up to them to decide how much energy that is, and in what form and manner it will reach them. When the free market is permitted to work the way it should, millions of individual choices and judgments will produce the proper balance of supply and demand our economy needs. ”

As soon as he became president, Ronald Reagan ended the price controls on domestic oil first imposed by Richard Nixon; these controls had contributed to both the 1973 Oil Crisis and the 1979 Energy Crisis. Almost immediately the price of oil fell, and during the 1980s America didn’t experience the gasoline lines and fuel shortages of the 1970s.  In addition, the removal of price controls ignited a boom in domestic drilling which arrested America’s slide into energy dependence.

As to the energy questions:  How do we end our dependence on foreign oil?  How can we achieve the energy independence which every President since Nixon has said is a matter of national security?  Using Reagan’s approach as a guide stop wringing our hands and moaning about our situation, stand up like our ancestors and boldly declare our Energy Independence!  In practical terms we should: take the shackles off our domestic oil industry, build new refineries, develop better distribution of natural gas, expand the use of nuclear, wind, solar and every conceivable form of energy, and drill baby drill!

Third, end the de facto amnesty. Our President has made no secret of what his end game is.  Remember him with Joe the plumber?  Mr. Obama wants to spread the wealth around.  He is perhaps not an avowed socialist however based on everything he does; he is effectively one.  Yet he has won two elections one way or another and he is coordinating the end game of the Cloward-Piven Strategy.   This is not a conspiracy…it’s a strategy to bankrupt America by overburdening the system….and it breaks my heart that as America dozed on the couch watching the game these Progressives have turned the American dream into a nightmare.

Now the Southern border has been all but erased by pre-arranged catastrophes.  What does America’s Community Organizer in Chief do in response to these manufactured assaults by the children’s crusade and others?  He unilaterally grants amnesty through executive edict to millions if not tens of millions while holding the door open for millions more.

Does the GOP move to block these unconstitutional acts of national suicide? Do they mount a national campaign to harness the vast majority of citizens who want to save America for Americans?  No, the congressional Republican leaders let everyone know they are for amnesty too.

How can they not know that amnesty for millions of undocumented democrats is suicide for the GOP?  Call it executive action.  Call it comprehensive immigration reform.  Call it anything you want.  Amnesty under any other name is amnesty and amnesty with open borders is a siren call to the tens of millions who haven’t already come to come now.  Our leaders are actually working on a plan to merge the United States with Canada and Mexico into a new super state of North America.  Our children and grandchildren will grow up in a third world hellhole that was once the land of the free and the home of the brave.  Close the borders or we give away our country.

Fourth, end the centrally planned welfare state.  The most insidious result that central-planning and the overabundance of government control that it requires is not the maladjustments that it inevitably creates in the economy.  It is not the crony capitalism and bureaucratic nepotism that it always fosters.  It is not the smothering blanket of nanny-state regulations that strangle creativity.  It is not even the tendency to one-party rule even when camouflaged behind a two party system that is in reality two heads of the same bird of prey.  It is not a system which may actually contain only two parties if you believe there is the government party and the country party.
No none of these missteps on the way to an illusionary utopia are the most insidious result of any system no matter what it is called that is some variation on the socialist theme of “From each according to their ability and to each according to their need.” Instead the most insidious result of the effort by some to control all is a change in the character of the people.

When government regulation becomes an all-embracing web of minutia that requires lawyers, accountants, and other translators of government-speak to comprehend, when safety-nets become hammocks, and when the do-gooders believe that they know what is best for everyone reaches a tipping point people begin to expect others to do for them what they used to do for themselves.  A nation of self-reliant, go-getters can be changed into a sea of slugs on the dole constantly crying and voting for more.

The descendants of the pilgrims and the pioneers are content to wait for their government check and their food stamps as long as there is a game on their flat screen and minutes left on their Obama phone.  Militant apathy has ossified the sinews of a once great people.  So many people don’t care about anything beyond their creature comforts, the most basic of which are guaranteed, that the will to succeed has been squashed.

Cut the strings of the hammock and people will learn to stand on their own two feet again.

And though the list is much longer, the last entry for today is one last simple solution for what we are told is a complex problem.  Grow the economy instead of the bureaucracy to bring back prosperity, opportunity, and hope.

Business is like water. It follows the path of least resistance.  A fact which should birth shame in the hearts of all Americans is that for the last decade American Businesses have been in a mad rush for the door.  They’ve left America, once the epitome of free enterprise, choosing instead to establish them in Communist China.  Today Federal red tape and taxes are strangling American free enterprise.

Innovation is like lightning. It comes in a flash, burns white hot, and is impossible to bottle.  When free enterprise is stifled by government interference in the marketplace the incentive to develop and produce are stunted.  Americans have always been the can-do people.  We’ve always been the leaders in invention and innovation.  Our entrepreneurs have traditionally led the world in new patents and processes.  Back in 2011 many sources predicted China would take the lead in high tech patents applied for and new industrial processes pioneered and now they do.  It takes thinking outside the box to find the new and provide the best.  In America today the Federal Government has set to work making the box stronger, to weaving a mesh of regulations and taxes, and turning the box into a cage.

This isn’t rocket science.  We aren’t trying to figure out the orbit perimeters of a sling-shot around the moon to reach Saturn.  This is Political Science and Economics: the arcane arts of who gets what, when, and how.

If we want manufacturing and innovation to grow reduce taxes to the lowest in the world and take the steel boot of regulation off the throat of free enterprise and watch our manufacturing base and our industrial output soar.  If you want more jobs stop stifling small business with uncertainty and watch the unemployment rate fall.  If we want more consumer spending instead of the next round of bail-outs and stimulus pay-offs to campaign contributors give the American people a one year federal tax holiday and watch consumer activity go through the roof.  In other words grow the economy not the bureaucracy.

Why They Lie To Us

There are some things that are more than uncomfortable, they are almost unbearable.

One of those things is poverty.  They say if all you have ever known is poverty it isn’t so bad because you don’t know any better.  I always think that people who say that have never been poor.  Since from time immemorial there has always been someone who has it better and if not there is always the iron clad law of “The Grass is always greener in someone else’s pasture.”

When Glug the caveman dragged himself back to his little efficiency cave and tried to feed his wife and kids with the little rabbit he was able to kill and his neighbor Gork in his sprawling Mammoth Cave compound next door feasted his family and the local witch doctor on prime rib of mastodon you can bet Glug knew the difference even though he had never experienced the difference.

However there is something even worse than being poor.  That is being poor again.

Another of those nearly unbearable things are people who lie to your face over and over and over and they continue to lie to your face even when they know you know they are lying?

However there is something worse than this.  That is being so pliable that you never call them on the lie.  Maybe it is because you have never taken the time to investigate their statements enough to recognize a lie.  Perhaps it is because you have heard the lie all your life and you have merely accepted it as fact.  Or could it be because standing up and telling liars they are lying takes moral courage, internal fortitude and backbone.

As Lenin, Adolf Hitler, his propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels and many other totalitarians, utopians and other statists have often said, “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.”  This is the operational dictum our Elites seem to be operating on.  From every mouthpiece and source the lies are trumpeted over and over.  From the classroom to the newsroom, from the debate to the campaign, from the courthouse to the capital over and over the party line goes forth.

Our Elites appear to operate on principles gleaned from George Orwell’s 1984, such as;  “And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed—if all records told the same tale—then the lie passed into history and became truth. ‘Who controls the past’ ran the Party slogan, ‘controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.’”   They use words in the same fashion as Orwell’s Ministry of Truth, “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

And our Elites’ dual headed party of power seems to have adopted the guiding philosophy of Orwell’s Party. “The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. . . . Power is not a means; it is an end . . . not power over things, but over men. . . . In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. . . . There will be no loyalty, except loyalty toward the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. . . . Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever.”

Every candidate and commentator whenever they refer to illegal immigration they base their profundities on the figure 11 million illegals.  Whether they were for them or against them this was the figure everyone agreed on.  Listen to the news.  Read the newspapers.  Tune in to the endless campaign commercials.  Listen to a lecture in a public classroom and this is the number you will hear every day, all day, and at least twice on Sunday.  It might be 11 million living in the shadows.  It might be 11 million who need to be deported.  It might be 11 million who are doing the jobs Americans won’t do.  Whatever the context, it is always the same number.  So no matter how the world seems to have changed around us the number leveled off at 11 million. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

The interesting thing about that number is that it hasn’t changed since 2005 and even then so-called experts on counting the uncountable thought there could be as many as 20 million.  Have people stopped coming?  Does the immigration service run the country with the efficiency of security guards at an overcrowded Walmart; no one comes in unless someone else leaves?

And this is not the only example.

Think of the Vietnam War.  It ended in 1973 with the Paris Peace Accords.  Henry Kissinger won the Nobel peace Prize for negotiating this peace.  In these accords North Vietnam acceded to our demands, they stopped fighting and returned the known and acknowledged POWS.  In 1973 America won the Vietnam War: all combat troops left and for the United States the war was over.

For two years the South Vietnam we had fought to protect stood as an independent nation.  They held a democratic election, the opposition won, and there was a peaceful transfer of power.  Then in 1975 after so many former anti-war and anti-government agitators had been elected what was then called the Watergate Congress made it abundantly clear that no matter what happened we would not support or even re-supply the South the North invaded.  The dispirited southerners threw down their guns and surrendered.

Every time the Vietnam War is mentioned in print, in class, on TV, or radio we are told it was a debacle, we lost, it was a mistake, and we are regaled with photos of people hanging from helicopters trying to escape the victorious communists or of bulldozers pushing planes off aircraft carriers.  The problem with these pictures are that the people hanging from the helicopters were our South Vietnamese allies whom we had abandoned to the communists and the planes being pushed off the decks of our carriers were South Vietnamese jets and we were trying to make room for more to land who were fleeing the collapse we had caused.

If we left in 1973 as victors of the Second Vietnam War and the Third Vietnam War ended in 1975 how do you lose a war if you aren’t there?

Other lies that are force fed to a silent nation:

Women are a minority.

Illegal Immigrants only take the jobs Americans won’t do.

The national debt is sustainable.

There is no inflation.

Unemployment is ___%

The Supreme Court issues settled law.

Due to the restraint of time and space this list is not meant to be all inclusive.

How long will we sit silent as we are fed these lies?  What happens if we sit for too long?  We eventually tune them out or we come to act as if what we are spoon fed is true. Either way the Elites win as We the People are forced to pay taxes to hire teachers to indoctrinate our own children in the lies.

We all know that the truth is the truth and non-truth is the lie.  Yet because of political correctness, peer pressure, and the uniformity of the media megaphone we know that some truths must never be said and some lies are repeated endlessly.

Looking to the examples given to us in Orwell’s 1984:

“Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two makes four. If that is granted, all else follows.”   And, “For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable – what then?”

Why do they lie to us? Because it advances the agenda, maintains the power of the Elites and because we allow it go on this raises the same question, “What then?”

19 VERY DISTURBING FACTS ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION THAT EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD KNOW

Should we roll out the red carpet and allow millions upon millions of thieves, rapists, gang members and drug dealers to come waltzing into this country any time they would like?

Should we broadcast a message to the rest of the world that anyone that can find a way to enter this country and somehow get to a “sanctuary city” can sign up for a plethora of welfare benefits and live a life of leisure at the expense of hard working American citizens? Yes, those questions sound absurd, but what I have just described will essentially be official U.S. government policy if the immigration bill going through Congress becomes law. And unfortunately, Democrats now say that they have the Republican votes that they need to get “immigration reform” through the House of Representatives. If this amnesty bill becomes law, it will encourage even more illegal immigration and it will be one more step toward making the U.S. border essentially meaningless.

Right now, we desperately need the American people to contact their representatives in Congress and demand that they vote against this bill. Sadly, this is not likely to happen because most Americans have absolutely no idea how negatively illegal immigration is affecting this nation.

The following are 19 very disturbing facts about illegal immigration that every American should know…

#1 57 percent of all households that are led by an immigrant (legal or illegal) are enrolled in at least one welfare program.

#2 According to one study, the cost to U.S. taxpayers of legalizing current illegal immigrants would be approximately 6.3 trillion dollars over the next 50 years.

#3 The Obama administration has distributed flyers that tell illegal immigrants that their immigration status will not be checked when they apply for food stamps.

#4 The Department of Homeland Security says that it has lost track of a million people that have entered this country but that appear never to have left.

#5 One out of every five children living in Los Angeles County has a parent that is in the country illegally.

#6 In one recent year, taxpayers in Los Angeles County spent 600 million dollars on welfare for children of illegal immigrants.

#7 Thanks to illegal immigration, California’s overstretched health care system is on the verge of collapse. Dozens of California hospitals and emergency rooms have shut down over the past decade because they could not afford to stay open after being endlessly swamped by illegal immigrants who were simply not able to pay for the services that they were receiving. As a result, the remainder of the health care system in the state of California is now beyond overloaded. This had led to brutally long waits, diverted ambulances and even unnecessary patient deaths. At this point, the state of California now ranks dead last out of all 50 states in the number of emergency rooms per million people.

#8 It has been estimated that U.S. taxpayers spend $12,000,000,000 a yearon primary and secondary school education for the children of illegal immigrants.

#9 It is estimated that illegal aliens make up approximately 30 percent of the population in federal, state and local prisons and that the total cost of incarcerating them is more than $1.6 billion annually.

#10 The federal government actually has a website that teaches immigrantshow to sign up for welfare programs once they arrive in the United States.

#11 The Obama administration recently introduced the very first “unmanned” border station along the Texas-Mexico border.

#12 The Obama administration has sued individual states such as Arizona that have tried to crack down on illegal immigration.

#13 According to the FBI, there are approximately 1.4 million gang members living in our cities. Illegal immigration has been one of the primary factors that has fueled the growth of these gangs.

#14 As I have written about previously, there are only about 200 police officers assigned to Chicago’s Gang Enforcement Unit to handle the estimated 100,000 gang members living in the city.

#15 Mexican drug cartels make approximately 6.6 billion dollars a year“exporting” illegal drugs to the United States.

#16 It is an open secret that Mexican drug cartels are openly conducting military operations inside the United States. The handful of border patrol agents that we have guarding the border are massively outgunned and outmanned.

#17 According to the Justice Department’s National Drug Intelligence Center, Mexican drug cartels were actively operating in 50 different U.S. cities in 2006. By 2010, that number had skyrocketed to 1,286.

#18 Overall, more than 55,000 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico since 2006. That same level of violence will eventually show up in major U.S. cities unless something dramatic is done about illegal immigration.

#19 It is being projected that the Senate immigration bill will bring 33 million more people to the United States over the next decade.

One of the very few things that the federal government is actually required to do by the U.S. Constitution is to defend our borders, and unfortunately the Obama administration has willingly chosen to leave our borders completely wide open. In fact, you can go down to the Texas border right now and watch illegal immigrants hop right across the Rio Grande.

Several retired Border Patrol agents recently drafted an open letter to the American people on the subject of illegal immigration, and what they had to say was quite startling. The following is an excerpt from that letter that was in a recent Breitbart article…

“Transnational criminal enterprises have annually invested millions of dollars to create and staff international drug and human smuggling networks inside the United States; thus it is no surprise that they continue to accelerate their efforts to get trusted representatives in place as a means to guarantee continued success,” the Border Patrol agents wrote.

“We must never lose sight of the fact that the United States is the market place for the bulk of transnational criminal businesses engaged in human trafficking and the smuggling, distribution and sale of illegal drugs. Organized crime on this scale we are speaking about cannot exist without political protection.”
According to those retired border agents, by refusing to secure our border the Obama administration is openly facilitating the trafficking of drugs into the United States…

“Most heroin, cocaine, meth, and marijuana marketed in the United States is produced outside of our country, and then smuggled into the United States,” they wrote. “The placement of trusted foreign employees inside the United States is imperative to insure success in continuing to supply the demand, and returning the profits to the foreign organization. Members of these vicious transnational crime syndicates are already well established in more than 2,000 American cities and their numbers are increasing as networks expand and demands accelerate. These transnational criminals present a real and present danger to all Americans, and they live among us.”
Sadly, in politically correct America you can’t even talk about the problem of illegal immigration these days without being labeled as a “racist”.

For the record, I believe that all people deserve love and respect no matter what they look like or where they are born. God created us all and He loves us all very much. I have long been a very strong advocate for racial reconciliation in this country, and I will continue to be.

And there are tens of millions of Latino-Americans in this country that are hard working, law-abiding citizens. They have done things the right way, and it is extremely unfortunate that they often get lumped in with millions of illegal immigrants that willingly choose to break our laws.

Unfortunately, we have a system of immigration today that greatly rewards lawless behavior. We have made coming into this country through the front door exceedingly difficult, but we have left the back door completely wide open.

So hard working, law-abiding people that want to do things the right way are kept out, but those that want to come here and commit crimes or abuse the system are free to come on over any time that they would like.

What sense does that make?

Our immigration system is completely broken, but these days we cannot even have a rational debate about these issues. In politically correct America, illegal immigrants have become a “favored class” of people that you are never supposed to say anything bad about.

In fact, one activist recently went out and actually got people to sign a petition that said that we should let illegal immigrants out of prison no matter what crimes they have committed…

Our Immigration System Is Not Broken

Why is it that when African Americans whose families have been in this country for hundreds of years commit crimes they go to jail and when illegal immigrants commit crimes they get released?

In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide target illegal aliens, as do approximately two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants.

More than 60 percent of the Hispanic gangs in Southern California—whose membership is in the tens of thousands—is illegal. These gangs involved with drug-distribution schemes, extortion, drive-by assassinations, assaults, and robberies.

According to the analysis conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, foreign aliens committed 611,234 unique crimes in Texas from 2008 to 2014, including thousands of homicides and sexual assaults.

According to Infowars.com:

Illegal immigrants take jobs away from American citizens. According to a review of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau data, legal and illegal immigrants gained over a million additional jobs between 2008 and 2010 even as millions of American citizens were losing their jobs during that same time period.

The majority of our immigrants now sneak in through the “back door” that the federal government purposely leaves open.  Thanks to the negligence of the federal government, far more people move into the United States illegally than come in through the legal immigration process.

Illegal immigrants generally don’t pay taxes.  The vast majority of illegal aliens would never even dream of paying income taxes, but Mexicans living in America send billions upon billions of dollars out of the United States and back to Mexico every single year.

Although illegal aliens pay next to nothing in taxes, they have no problem receiving tens of billions of dollars worth of free education benefits, free health care benefits, free housing assistance and free food stamp benefits.  Many communities in the United States now openly advertise that they will help illegal aliens with these things.

The cost of educating the children of illegal immigrants is staggering. It is estimated that U.S. taxpayers spend $12,000,000,000 a year on primary and secondary school education for the children of illegal immigrants.

It was estimated that there were approximately 7.7 million illegal aliens employed by U.S. employers during 2008.  How much better would our economy look if all of those jobs were being filled by American workers?

The region along the U.S./Mexico border is now an open war zone. Just across the U.S. border, the city of Juarez, Mexico is considered to be one of the most dangerous cities on the entire planet because of the brutal drug war being waged there. In fact, Juarez has now become the murder capital of the western hemisphere.  Much of that violence has begun to spill over into areas of the southwestern United States.

A substantial percentage of young illegal immigrants end up in gangs.  U.S. authorities say that there are now over 1 million members of criminal gangs operating inside the United States. According to federal statistics, these 1 million gang members are responsible for up to 80% of the violent crimes committed in the U.S. each year.  Latino gangs made up primarily of illegal aliens are responsible for much of this violence.

Each year, it costs the states billions of dollars to incarcerate illegal immigrant criminals that should have never been allowed into the country in the first place. It is estimated that illegal aliens make up approximately 30 percent of the population in federal, state and local prisons and that the total cost of incarcerating them is more than $1.6 billion annually.

If these aren’t problems that need to be addressed we have no problems, everything is coming up roses, the economy is roaring along and our fundamentally transformed America and its New Normal is the Utopia we were promised when so many of our low information voters hoped for change.

In 2007 I ran for the Virginia State Senate on a platform of taking back control from Washington.  Believing that the States should take a more active role in guiding the central government part of that platform was a list of recommendations I wanted the State of Virginia to send to the Federal Government.  One of those recommendations dealt with immigration.

Here are my recommendations from 2007, which I still recommend today:

  1. Secure our borders.  We can and have secured the borders of Korea in mountainous terrain why can’t we secure our own border across a desert.
  2. Post Army troops at our borders with enough manpower and with rules of engagement that will allow them to patrol and secure the borders.
  3. Build a wall.  The Great Wall of China can be seen from space.  America’s current wall can only be seen in the imagination and the campaign promises of politicians.
  4. Enforce all laws against hiring illegal immigrants.  Make the fines for violation confiscatory.  Penalize second offenses with jail time.
  5. Cut off welfare and all other government support for illegal immigrants.
  6. Return to the pre 1982 interpretation of the 14th Amendment and stop/revers the anchor baby madness.
  7. Repeal the Kennedy Immigration Bill of 1965 (The Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965).
  8. Have a 10 year moratorium on immigration so that all who have come in the last 25 years can assimilate and become Americans in language and customs.

There is no need to round up the 11 to 20 million illegals who have invaded our home.  No one rounded them up to bring them here.  We are constantly told they are only here to get better jobs.  Cut off the jobs and they should leave on their own accord.  They brought themselves here they can get themselves home.

This is what I proposed in 2007.  If we had done these things then we wouldn’t have an immigration crisis now.

Much of this such as securing the border, building a wall, penalties for hiring illegals, and limits on welfare are already on the books.  They were parts of earlier amnesties, the part that was never implemented.  They got the amnesty and we got the brush off.

Our immigration system isn’t broken. Our immigration enforcement system is broken, because our central government is broken.  We have been lied to and deceived by both parties.  One side wants more votes and the other side wants cheap labor, and the citizens of this country get the shaft from both directions.

The new book from Anne Coulter, Adios America, presents all the same solutions and provides the research and intellectual support for which Ms. Coulter is rightfully famous.  Hopefully the presentation of these ideas by a bestselling author will bring them to the attention of a much wider audience than I have been able to muster over the last eight years.  That combined with the meteroric rise of Donald Trump as a political phenome whose opening gambit was immigration will spark a real debate.  Not just a debate between the Democrat Progressives and the Republican Progressives about how they can best allow the invasion to continue while pretending to confront the issue, but a debate about what it means to be a country and what kind of a country we want to be.

Immigration is THE issue for 2016.  If we do not stop the migration invasion and if it continues for another presidential term or two the next issue might be whether or not we change the name of our country to Estados Unidos.  Or we are going to continue to pretend we are who we used to be and not what the triumphant Progressives are transforming us into: a third world hell hole that used to be the United States.

Our immigration system isn’t broken. The will of our leaders to enforce an immigration policy has been broken and without the will to maintain our integrity as a nation we will soon become nothing more than the Balkans writ large: a powder keg waiting for a match.

When it comes to immigration if not now when, if not us who, and if not the United States of America what?

Or as Ronald Reagan said, “A nation that cannot control its borders is not a nation.”

We Are A Conquered Nation

It’s time to take the gloves off.  For decades I have been writing that the Progressives who have ruled our nation since 1988 have been using every tactic at their disposal to transform America from the indispensable nation to a disposable dystopia.  I have railed against the open border mass immigration importation of Democrat voters that has swamped our culture and warped our electoral process.

I have long believed we have passed the tipping point and the reason I keep on is so that when my grandchildren turn to their children living in a third world hell hole that was once the richest most powerful nation on earth they can say, “At least your Great Grandfather tried to let people know what was coming.”  For this reason I have written the History of the Future.  For this reason I ran a quixotic campaign for the Virginia State Senate in a gerrymandered district that was drawn for and belonged to a man famous for attending less than fifty percent of the Senate’s meetings and sleeping through much of those.  I won every vote that was not his by birth and lost by two to one.  However in that campaign I was free to say the things politicians can never say.

I told people that it was time for the States to stand up and bring federalism back from the brink of extinction.  That it was time to demand real money instead of fiat currency that destined to bring us to financial ruin.  I told them that it was time to declare English the official language for education, ballots, and government forms.  I called for a ten year moratorium on all immigration so that those who were already here legally could be assimilated.  I called for a vigorous enforcement of the laws against hiring illegals with massive fines for anyone who violated them.  Coupling this lack of work with a denial of all government benefits so that our illegal population would self deport and go home.  I called for the imposition of a 10% tariff on imported manufactured goods so that the native industries could be protected and the income could fund tax cuts for Americans.

That was my platform.  It was well received and well supported outside the areas of the district where public support was not the major industry.  It went down to a rousing defeat.

Over the years anyone who has read this column knows that I have called the two government parties two sides of the same coin and two heads on the same bird of prey.  I have pointed out that no matter which party is in power we end up with a bigger federal government, more laws, more taxes and more undocumented democrats.  Signaling that we have passed the tipping point in 2012 we re-elected the biggest spending president in American History in the midst of  a recession he has successfully turned into the New Normal whose actual platform was a bigger federal government, more laws, more taxes, and more undocumented democrats.  The handwriting isn’t on the wall, because there is no wall, because the executive branch has refused to build it even though the legislative branch mandated it and funded it.  The handwriting is in columns like this and in the works of Pat Buchanan, Anne Coulter, Mark Steyn, and the words of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and countless other watchmen on the walls.

However, even though Americans have and are listening. Conservative radio talk is ubiquitous; Fox has buried CNN and MSNBC.  Coulter, Styen, Levin, and many others write multiple best sellers.  The documentaries of Dinesh D’Souza break box office records.  Yet the political class continues to be re-elected to rule exactly in the opposite direction.

Socialism is dying everywhere in the world except in America.  Our progressive conquerors use the agencies of the imperial executive branch to harass, tax, prosecute, and spy.  We are watched, regulated and held back at every step.  They have used free trade to export our manufacturing base changing us from the arsenal of democracy into the marketplace for a communist dictatorship.  Crony capitalists walk away with billions, billions more disappear in federal rounding errors, and banks are bailed out as the Creature from Jekyll Island inflates bubble after bubble.

It isn’t time to roll over and go back to sleep.  People woke up in 2010 when the Tea Party was born.  I was there at the birth.  I went to the rallies.  I spoke at the meetings.  I attended the conventions and supported the candidates that swept the House in 2010.  What happened?  Those brave new world conservatives that had just turned out Nancy Pelosi went to Washington, voted to make John Boehner the Speaker of the House, renewed the Patriot Act, and then passed continuing resolution after continuing resolution to keep the money rolling and the government growing.

Knowing what was coming I wrote and published The Constitution Failed in October of 2010, which is a book many people still reject merely because of the title.  They erroneously think I am saying the document itself is a failure or that it was flawed from the beginning when what I am really saying is the execution of it has failed.  The thumbnail sketch being, “If the Constitution was written for the express purpose of giving us a limited government and we now have an unlimited government it has failed.”

I am not saying that it didn’t bring us the most freedom and the greatest opportunities any people in the History of the world have ever had.  It did.  I am not saying that it didn’t allow America to rise from 13 struggling states on the edge of the world to the greatest nation History has ever known.  It did.  What I am saying is that if our founding document guarantees us a limited government, individual freedom, and economic opportunity, and we are now laboring in the Progressives New Normal as the NSA watches our every move and listens to our every conversation something is very wrong here.

Everywhere I go and everyone I speak to seems to know intuitively how to solve our problems.  Seal the border, cut off the free meals, and the illegal immigration problem will solve itself.  Stop immigration long enough for the millions of legal immigrants to become culturally American.  We all came from somewhere else, and after a generation, or at most two, we are all Americans because the old melting pot was allowed to work instead of the Progressive smelting pot that is Balkanizing America.  Everyone can see we need to protect our industry and do everything we can to foster its resurgence.  Everyone knows we need more domestic energy not less, less regulation not more, and that the healthcare system was healthier and more affordable before the Affordable Care Act.

Everyone everywhere can see these things, or at least a vast majority of native born Americans can.  Yet does anyone honestly believe that the perpetually re-elected or their carbon copy replacements are going to shut down the nomenclature in OZ, the casino in New York, or the giveaway to China?  Everyone everywhere can see we are on a crash course to nowhere on the express to the dustbin of History.  The best people can say is it will last long enough for them to continue living the high life.

This is not the case.  I began this plea by saying it’s time to take the gloves off and it is.  The economy is heading for the biggest crash we have ever known.  Our foreign policy or lack thereof is leading us to international humiliation.  The immigration invasion is leading us to the third world.

Believing that once a people lose their freedom there is no way to restore it by internal means without a complete collapse of the ruling superstructure as happened in the Soviet Union I am soon bringing out a new book, Political Action Follows Political Philosophy.  While every author hopes his books will sell, this is a book I plant as seed for our descendants. It is a distillation of the Enlightenment political theory upon which our freedoms and our Constitution were founded as expressed against the background of the events which led to their demise: The History of the Future.

As I close today I pray for the freedom of all, and I counsel: keep the peace, keep the faith, we shall overcome.

Good Bye America It Was Good to Know You

It used to be that as one grew older their experience developed wisdom that could help guide succeeding generations. Today the world moves too fast. In some ways my 10 year old granddaughter knows more intuitively about computers than I do after working online since there was an online.

My father grew up plowing with mules as had his father and his grandfather and so on back to houses with no floors, no running water and no electricity. While they had passed wisdom down for uncounted generations what they had to say to the flower children of America’s prosperity seemed hopelessly out of date just as what we have to say to the children of the Millennials seems like gibberish from the dark Ages.

One thing however remained a constant. We were all Americans. We all believed in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. We not only expected our freedoms we came to take our heritage for granted. Today most people can tell you more about their local sports teams than they can about their government or the History of America. None of us gets the luxury of living in the country we grew up in yet in the past we could at least look forward to living in one that shared the same values and generally the same goals.

Today as our values swirl the drain and our goals have morphed from freedom to free access to government largess we are staring into the maw of an existential crisis that threatens to leave our children with the proverbial bowl of pottage for which we traded their future.

What is this issue that dramatically portends the ultimate doom of the America in which most of us grew up? As a British politician once said,
“Demographics is destiny.”

It used to be if the politicians were out of step with the voters the voters threw them out at the next election. Now our politicians have decided to import new voters who will support them and submerge us.

Just when you thought we were safe from the latest version of the Children’s Crusade there is another surge of unaccompanied minors breaking on our borders like a tsunami. The second wave of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children has begun, with more than 3,000 of them surging across the Mexican border into the U.S. last month — the highest rate since the peak of last summer’s crisis and a warning that another rough season could be ahead.

Immigration officials warned that they expected another surge as the weather improved. Although the numbers are down some 40 percent compared with last year’s frenetic pace that sparked a political crisis for the Obama administration, fiscal year 2015 is shaping up to mark the second-biggest surge on record.

If this sounds ominous for us, never fear our ever vigilant Big Brother has a solution. Why don’t we just spring for a free flight, education, health care and food stamps ad infinitum?

To facilitate the often treacherous process of entering the United States illegally through the southern border, the Obama administration is offering free transportation from three Central American countries and a special refugee/parole program with “resettlement assistance” and permanent residency.

Under the new initiative the administration has re-branded the official name it originally assigned to the droves of illegal immigrant minors who continue sneaking into the U.S. They’re no longer known as Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC), a term that evidently was offensive and not politically correct enough for the powerful open borders movement. The new arrivals will be officially known as Central American Minors (CAM) and they will be eligible for a special refugee/parole that offers a free one-way flight to the U.S. from El Salvador, Guatemala or Honduras. The project is a joint venture between the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the State Department.

Specifically, the “program provides certain children in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras with a safe, legal, and orderly alternative to the dangerous journey that some children are undertaking to the United States,” according to a DHS memo obtained by JW this week. The document goes on to say that the CAM program has started accepting applications from “qualifying parents” to bring their offspring under the age of 21 from El Salvador, Guatemala or Honduras. The candidates will then be granted a special refugee parole, which includes many taxpayer-funded perks and benefits. Among them is a free education, food stamps, medical care and living expenses.

I often wonder since we cannot know who or where the illegals are off in the shadows how do conveniently locate them to apply for programs, give interviews, attend inaugurations, or do anything else. Then again they do gather in large numbers to demonstrate for more rights. You would think the TV lights would at least brighten up the shadows a little bit.

Since it wouldn’t be sporting to have so many people living, eating and breeding in America and not allow them to vote our visionary masters have that one figured out as well.

New York City is routinely described as a “global hub”, a place so thoroughly penetrated by international capital and migration that it seems at once within and without the United States. It is the center of American commerce and media, but its politics, demographics and worldly outlook make the Big Apple an outlier.

New York may be about to become even more distinct. The left-leaning New York City council is currently drafting legislation that would allow all legal residents, regardless of citizenship, the right to vote in city elections. If the measure passes into law, it would mark a major victory for a voting rights campaign that seeks to enfranchise non-citizen voters in local elections across the country. A few towns already permit non-citizen residents to vote locally, but New York City would be by far the largest jurisdiction to do so.

Under the likely terms of the legislation, legally documented residents who have lived in New York City for at least six months will be able to vote in municipal elections. Reports suggest that the city council is discussing the legislation with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office, and that a bill might be introduced as soon as this spring.

While the legislation stands a good chance of sailing through the council and even winning the approval of the mayor, the prospect of New York City enfranchising its residents has stoked controversy. Many Americans find the idea of non-citizen voting entirely unpalatable and fear that it undermines the sanctity and privilege of citizenship.

Advocates for non-citizen voting in New York City argue that it would right a glaring wrong. Invoking the ancient American battle cry of “no taxation without representation”, they point to the enormous numbers of non-citizen residents who pay taxes, send their children to public schools, are active members of their communities, but have no say in local elections. This could add up to as many as one million voters.

Let’s see no voter ID allowed. No purging of dead people from the voter lists allowed. Non-citizens voting is allowed can illegal alien voting be far behind? Of course they would never be allowed to vote in a presidential election, no how no way…..;–)

And how are they supposed to get to the welfare office, the emergency room or the post office to pick up their check from the IRS for not paying taxes (Earned Income Tax Credit) without a driver’s license? Oh wait the America Last crowd has a fix for that too.

A surge of undocumented immigrants seeking driver’s licenses has surprised the California Department of Motor Vehicles, pouring in at twice the rate officials expected and underscoring massive interest in the new program.

Just three months after driver’s licenses became available to immigrants living in California illegally, the product of legislation advocates had pursued fruitlessly for years before prevailing and passing Assembly Bill 60 in 2013, 493,998 have sought licenses. The number has surprised officials who spent months bracing for an influx of new customers by hiring staff, opening new DMV offices and extending hours.

“The interest in this program is far greater than anyone anticipated,” DMV Director Jean Shiomoto said in a statement.

In preparing to offer the new licenses, the DMV estimated that about 1.4 million immigrants would apply over the course of three years. The new figures show they have handled one-third of that expected total in three months, a rate double what the DMV expected, although the official estimate of the total number of eligible applicants remains the same. About 203,000 people have received licenses.

Following the trail to the Fundamentally Transformed Amerika of course brings us proudly to motor-voter, that legacy from the Clinton administration, another gift that just keeps on giving.

Local and state government officials are registering non-U.S. citizens as valid voters — even when the non-citizens say they are not Americans on their voter registration forms, a former Justice Department attorney tells The Daily Caller.

  1. Christian Adams, a former United States Department of Justice official in the Civil Rights Division will show the Supreme Court in a brief later this month that non-citizens are registering to vote through the government’s motor voter program. The motor voter act became law during the Clinton administration as an easier way to register voters through their local Department of Motor Vehicles offices, but Adams says the program is failing to weed out those who are not American citizens.

At least our educational system will teach our children what America is all about? They will instill in them a decent appreciation for our system, our History and our values.

Oh wait a minute the Denver Public School system is allowing immigrants who have resided illegally in the United States since they were children to teach in its classrooms under a relaxed employment policy advanced by the Obama administration, district officials said this week.

Denver has hired teachers in the program as part of its participation with Teach for America, which places teachers in low-income schools, many of whom are recent college graduates without a background in education.

Fred Elbel, director of the Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform, an organization that opposes granting any type of legal status to such immigrants, criticized the program.

“There are at least 20 million Americans who either do not have a full-time job or are underemployed. This includes teachers,” he said. “It is unlikely that most of the illegal aliens with (DACA) status are trained, qualified and certified as educators.”

So if the illegals are teaching our children what do you think they learn about illegal immigration? Oh excuse me I mean Undocumented Voters.

Now that I think about it the status for some of our visitors is changing. These aren’t illegal aliens they are refugees. This gives them a special status according to our blue helmeted world government over at the U.N.

Take New Hampshire as an example. The number of refugees arriving annually in New Hampshire has waned in recent years, down from a peak of 559 in 2009 to 345 in 2014. However, those numbers represent a small fraction of the total number of refugees resettled nationally. During the last fiscal year, for example, 7,214 refugees arrived in Texas, 6,108 in California, 4,082 in New York, 4,006 in Michigan and 1,941 in Massachusetts. Connecticut and Maine resettled slightly more than New Hampshire; Vermont and Rhode Island resettled slightly fewer.

What rights are we obligated by the U.N. to provide our reclassified visitors? It can’t be much right? Here is the official list:

Articles 12 – 30 of the Refugee Convention set out the rights which individuals are entitled to once they have been recognized as Convention refugees:

  • All refugees must be granted identity papers and travel documents that allow them to travel outside the country
  • Refugees must receive the same treatment as nationals of the receiving country with regard to the following rights:
    • Free exercise of religion and religious education
    • Free access to the courts, including legal assistance
    • Access to elementary education
    • Access to public relief and assistance
    • Protection provided by social security
    • Protection of intellectual property, such as inventions and trade names
    • Protection of literary, artistic and scientific work
    • Equal treatment by taxing authorities
  • Refugees must receive the most favorable treatment provided to nationals of a foreign country with regard to the following rights:
    • The right to belong to trade unions
    • The right to belong to other non-political nonprofit organizations
    • The right to engage in wage-earning employment
  • Refugees must receive the most favorable treatment possible, which must be at least as favorable to that accorded aliens generally in the same circumstances, with regard to the following rights:
    • The right to own property
    • The right to practice a profession
    • The right to self-employment
    • Access to housing
    • Access to higher education
  • Refugees must receive the same treatment as that accorded to aliens generally with regard to the following rights:
    • The right to choose their place of residence
    • The right to move freely within the country
    •  Free exercise of religion and religious education
    • Free access to the courts, including legal assistance
    • Access to elementary education
    • Access to public relief and assistance
    • Protection provided by social security
    • Protection of intellectual property,
      such as inventions and trade names
    • Protection of literary, artistic and scientific work
    • Equal treatment by taxing authorities

Being a nation of immigrants I am sure the average American is totally on board with these policies. Maybe not, despite President Obama’s efforts to cool the nation’s views on illegal immigrants storming over the U.S.-Mexico border, Americans have reached a new level of anger over the issue, with most demanding a more aggressive deportation policy and reversal of an interpretation of the 14th Amendment that currently grants citizenship to kids of illegals born in the U.S.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday also finds Americans questioning spending tax dollars on government aid provided to illegal immigrants. A huge 83 percent said that anybody should be required to prove that they are “legally allowed” to be in the country before receiving local, state or federal government services.

Overall, the poll is bad news for the White House because it shows sustained, and in some cases, elevated anger and frustration over the surge in undocumented immigrants in the United States. For example, 62 percent told the pollster that the U.S. is “not aggressive enough” in deporting those illegally in the United States. Just 15 percent believed the administration’s current policy was “about right” and 16 percent said it was “too aggressive.”

That 62 percent number is a jump from a year ago when it was 52 percent.

When asked if the baby of an illegal born in the United States should automatically become a U.S. citizen, as is now the law, 54 percent said no versus 38 percent who said yes.

In another area that seems to test American patience with the administration, 51 percent said that illegal immigrants who have American born children should not be exempt from deportation.

No matter how the haters try to stop it at least this tidal wave drowning America in the third world is all being done legally, or is it?

Take the celebrated case of a Federal Judge trying to staunch the flow down in Texas. President Obama’s new deportation amnesty will remain halted, a federal judge in Texas ruled Tuesday night in an order that also delivered a judicial spanking to the President’s lawyers for misleading the court.

Judge Andrew S. Hanen, who first halted the amnesty in February, just two days before it was to take effect, said he’s even more convinced of his decision now, particularly after Mr. Obama earlier this year said he intends for his policies to supersede federal laws.

Judge Hanen pointed to Mr. Obama’s comments at a February town hall when the President warned immigration agents to adhere to his policies or else face “consequences.”

“In summary, the chief executive has ordered that the laws requiring removal of illegal immigrants that conflict with the 2014 DHS directive are not to be enforced, and that anyone who attempts to do so will be punished,” Judge Hanen wrote.

“This is not merely ineffective enforcement. This is total non-enforcement,” the judge continued, saying that Mr. Obama’s own descriptions of how he is carrying out his policies have hurt his case.

Mr. Obama in November announced a new amnesty for illegal immigrant parents whose children are either U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. The amnesty could apply to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants.

Texas and 25 other states sued to stop Mr. Obama, and Judge Hanen sided with them, finding that they suffered an economic harm from the policy, granting them standing in court, and then finding that the President broke the law in bypassing Congress to announce his policy.

The administration has appealed Judge Hanen’s ruling, but also asked the judge to reconsider.

On Tuesday the judge not only refused to reconsider, but also said the administration misled him when it said no part of the amnesty had been implemented, and the lawyers bungled their attempt to try to repair the damage by filing an “advisory” with the judge early last month.

Since November, the administration had been granting a three-year amnesty to illegal immigrant Dreamers under the new policy. That’s a year longer than the two-year program Mr. Obama announced for the Dreamers in 2012.

More than 100,000 applications were approved for the three-year amnesty between Nov. 21 and the February date when Judge Hanen halted the program.

“Whether by ignorance, omission, purposeful misdirection, or because they were misled by their clients, the attorneys for the government misrepresented the facts,” the judge said, adding that he was stunned the government waited for two more weeks after his ruling to inform him that the applications had already been processed. In addition, the DHS broke the judge’s order moving forward in approving amnesty applications despite injunction

 

Texas argues that had it known applications were being processed, it would have taken extra legal steps to try to halt the program earlier.

Judge Hanen said he may still issue sanctions against the government for misleading him though he declined to strike the government’s pleadings, which would have essentially closed the case and granted victory to Texas.

The judge said that while that may be warranted, it would do a disservice to the weighty issues at stake in the case, including fundamental issues of presidential power.

What about that passport to everything else a legal Social Security number? That has to be well regulated to make sure none of our uninvited guests can gain unfettered access to the entire social network we have built and paid for, doesn’t it?

The Obama administration has issued more than half a million new Social Security Numbers (SSN) to illegal immigrants granted amnesty under President Obama’s Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals program.

In a letter to Sens. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Ben Sasse (R-NE), exclusively obtained by Breitbart News, the Social Security Administration (SSA) reveals that by the end of Fiscal Year 2014 the Obama administration “had issued approximately 541,000 original SSNs to individuals authorized to work under the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy since its inception” in 2012.

What do we face in America today?

  • A government dedicated to importing enough voters to achieve unassailable dominance.
  • A government that is out of control, ignoring laws and trampling on the rights of its own citizens in favor of those who have crashed the gate.
  • If the Constitution was established to guarantee Americans a limited government what can we say except that at this moment in American History the Constitution Failed.

Looking at the sad state of our Republic about all I have left to say is, “Good bye America it was good to know you.”

A Review of U.S. Immigration History

On the matter of immigration many of those who support the concepts of “free choice migration,” “open borders,” or “free market labor,” defend their position with the argument that from earliest times immigration was wide open and all comers were welcome, and that is what made America great. This is absolutely untrue. It was never like that, and has never in the history of the country been close to what has been happening since 1965- the immigration problem is a recent one stemming from misguided progressives and free market labor conservatives.

The first immigrants were from Europe, mostly Britain, the Netherlands, and France, settling in the Northern Atlantic coastal areas (During the same period all parties were battling for a share of the Caribbean islands, and the Spanish and Portuguese where concentrating on Central and South America, though there were minor colonies in what would eventually be the United States). During the 1600’s approximately 175,000 English migrated to America. Many of these were recruited to establish colonies for agriculture and to exploit natural resources.

Over the next 200 hundred years about 500,000 British and other Europeans, migrated to expand the colonies; of these at least half were indentured servants, people who were provided passage, room and board, and usually training in return for a long period of working for the colonist. It was during this period that most of the African slaves were brought to America. This was not open migration, it was migration with a specific purpose and consisted of volunteer farmers, merchants, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, indentured labor, and forced labor.

Immigration had little need for control because it was controlled naturally by the arduous and expensive crossing of the ocean. People who came here as religious pilgrims/refugees, were a problem in their home countries where their emerging churches caused conflict with the establishment; colonization got the problem out of the homeland and helped to develop the colonial production needed to provide a robust merchant trade; a win-win for the home government.

This continued to be the situation through the American Revolution, with the added immigration of mercenary French and Hessian (German) soldiers, some of whom stayed on as residents. The restriction of immigration as a consequence of difficulty and cost began to fail with the formation of the United States, since there was considerable political and social upheaval in Europe and ocean crossing had become much faster, safer, and less expensive. The Constitution was ratified in 1787, and the first immigration law of the United States was passed just three years later in 1790 in which only free white persons could be naturalized. From 1787 to 1820 immigration was less than 8000 per year. The next change was after the civil war when blacks were granted citizenship.

In 1875 the first comprehensive immigration law was passed, replacing the 1790 act. The purpose was to control both the number and nature of immigrants, so that they would not displace American workers, would not be enemies of the U.S., would give up allegiance to all other countries, would learn to read and write English, would not carry communicable disease, could assimilate into the American culture, and were capable of being self-sustaining. Fifteen years later, in 1890 Ellis Island in New York became the primary immigration screening and processing point of entry for European immigrants.

In 1854 the Gadsden Purchase added the southern portions of territory to what are now the states of Arizona and New Mexico. In the purchase it was agreed with Mexico that existing Mexican and Spanish land titles would be recognized and those Mexican citizens who wished to remain Mexican could sell their holdings and relocate to Mexico; those who chose to stay automatically became U.S. Citizens. The total population in the Arizona portion of the Gadsden Purchase was less than 500 people, most Mexican citizens, but also many friendly Indians. There were also Mexican Citizens at La Mesilla but they numbered no more than 500, some of these elected to move south and remain Mexican, others accepted U.S. Citizenship.

From 1836 to 1914 30 million Europeans immigrated to the U.S; almost 400,000 per year. The country had vast tracts of western land to populate, so the Europeans were welcomed with open arms. In 1921 the Emergency Quota Act limited the number of immigrants. The Immigration Act of 1924 restricted southern and eastern Europeans from immigrating and was designed to stop the large influx of Italians, Poles, Slavs, and Jews who had been coming in large numbers and settling in ethnic groups since the end of the 1800’s. There was great concern with the amount of time it took for these immigrants to learn English and become acculturated into the American social and economic structure.

Immigration dropped significantly during the years of the Great Depression, and more people actually emigrated from the U.S. than entered the country. During this time almost half a million were repatriated to Mexico, many voluntarily but about half were deported.

The Hart-Cellar act of 1965 for the first time abolished quotas by national origin. This changed the ethnic proportions of the country – prior to the act Europeans made up 60% of immigrants, and following the act only 15% were of European origin. In the five years following Hart-Cellar, immigration doubled, then double again in the following twenty years. Bush I signed the 1990 immigration act increasing immigrants by an additional 40%. Clinton commissioned a panel of experts to make recommendations on immigration – they recommended cutting legal immigration by 60%; the recommendation was ignored.

Today the United States allows more legal immigration than any other country, 317% more than the next highest. We are bringing in over 1 million new immigrants per year. We now have 38 million first generation legal immigrants in the country. In addition to that it is estimated that approximately 12 million illegal aliens are also in the country.

Our current immigration policy verges on the insane. At a time when we have more than 15 million Americans out of work we should not be bringing a million people a year into the country, and we should certainly not be tolerating the 12 million illegal aliens that are in the country, along with granting citizenship the anchor babies, and contemplating giving children of illegals a competitive advantage over children of citizens with the so-called dream act. The success of America was not is based on efficient functioning of enterprise and effective laws and institutions, but also on metering immigration to meet our needs, and assuring that those who are allowed into our country value our ideals and way of life. Prior to 1965 we had rational immigration policy that was anything but open borders, and demanded that immigrants were to become Americans in every aspect. 

We do indeed need comprehensive immigration reform, but not the kind the open borders/amnesty crowd is pushing. We need to repeal the acts from 1965 to present and do two things: 1) reduce allowed immigration to do actual sustainable demand, and 2) let only people who will support our American values and way of life into the country. We need to do that as soon as we stop illegal immigration and repatriate 12 million illegals back to their homeland.

A Leftist Wish List vs. National Security

One of the foremost responsibilities of the federal government is to ensure the security of our nation. It is right there in the Preamble to the United States Constitution: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” This week the U.S. Senate is scheduled to take up the FY 2011 National Defense Authorization Act. This legislation is necessary to fund the defense of the United States and its interests abroad. The House already passed their bill in May. But Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) would rather talk about amnesty.

Why is Reid doing this? One only need look at the RealClearPolitics aggregate polling data: he is in a dead-heat reelection battle with State Rep. Sharon Angle (R). That is why Reid bypassed usual Senate procedure and included “the DREAM Act” in the defense bill. The DREAM Act creates a “path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. before the age of 16, have lived here for 5 years, and either serve in the military or attend college. But the bill also prohibits the government from deporting anyone who has even filed an application for the program. This essentially gives amnesty to anyone who applies regardless of whether they actually qualify for the act’s protections. Worse, the program would also allow applicants to sponsor their immediate family members for a green card. While current law prohibits sponsorship of illegal immigrants living in the United States, this leaves open the possibility that they could fraudulently, through falsified documents or other means, sponsor their parents who are in the U.S. illegally – creating an even larger amnesty.

By itself the DREAM Act is terrible public policy. It would reward illegal aliens for violating federal immigration laws. It would encourage more illegal immigration by sending the message that the United States does not take its immigration laws seriously. And in an additional slap in the face to law-abiding Americans, it offers in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants, while legal students in the rest of the country would have to pay out-of-state tuition rates. But forcing this measure into the defense authorization bill is just shameful.

Unfortunately this is not the first time Reid has pulled this stunt. Last year’s defense bill, The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010, expanded federal hate crime laws to include crimes motivated by a victim’s “actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.” What did that have to do with national security? And this year the leftist Senate majority is also considering adding language to the bill that would repeal the military’s “don’t ask don’t tell” policy. This despite the fact that each of the four Service Chiefs (General Conway (USMC)General Conway (USMC)Admiral Roughead (USN), and General Schwartz (USAF)) have submitted letters stressing that any action by Congress should only be taken after the Pentagon finishes its review the policy. And Sen. Roland Burris (D–IL) has sponsored an amendment that would allow the use of military facilities around the world for “pre-paid” abortions.

According to Gallup’s latest poll, only 18% of Americans now approve of the job Congress is doing. Reid’s shameless hijacking of the defense bill for his reelection purposes is exactly why the American people have such a low approval of Congress. As Senator Mitch McConnell (R–KY) rightly declared, “It’s time they put the liberal wish list on the shelf and focused on the priorities of the American people.”
