“ILLEGALS RUN WILD” CBS: Illegals Entering US Triple with Talk of Immigration Reform

Arrests of illegal immigrants crossing into the United States have nearly tripled in recent months — in anticipation of Congressional efforts to enact comprehensive immigration legislation, border patrol agents told CBS News Wednesday.

“Once the first group gets across, they call their family, they call their friends and let them know, ‘Hey the time is right, come on over,’” Border Patrol agent and union representative Chris Cabrera told CBS News.

In March, 7,500 illegals were arrested in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas — which includes McAllen — Cabrera told CBS News. That’s up from 2,800 in January.

In February, nearly 4,800 illegals were arrested in the Rio Grande, the local news website The Monitor.com reports.

In fact, agents in McAllen used their station’s carport to process nearly 900 illegals caught over three days in March, according to the Monitor.com.

And border patrol agents have become so concerned about overcrowding and unsanitary conditions that they’ve complained to local and federal officials, the Monitor.com reports.

Many illegals are caught while traveling through the brush between Hidalgo and Sullivan City in Texas, a winding 30-mile stretch of the Rio Grande.

It’s popular with immigrants, who speed across the Rio Grande and assimilate into the small towns along the border, the Monitor.com reports.

Illegal Border Crossings Double as Beltway Gets Close to Deal

As the immigration reform Gang of Eight inside the Beltway prepares to announce a deal later this week, claiming border security will come before a path to citizenship for millions of illegals, Border Patrol agents have seen illegal border crossings double and warn the cutting of agent work hours will only result in less border security, not more.

“We’ve seen the number of illegal aliens double, maybe even triple since amnesty talk started happening,” an agent told Townhall, who asked to remain unnamed due to fears of retaliation within Customs and Border Protection [CBP], something he said is common. “A lot of these people, although not the majority, are criminals or aggravated felons. This is a direct danger to our communities.”

Data obtained by Townhall and reported within CBP from February 5 through March 1, 2013 shows 504 illegal aliens were spotted exploiting the Tucson/Nogales area, 189 were caught on CBP intelligence cameras. Of those 504, only 174 were apprehended and 32 of the 189 on camera were carrying large drug load packs for Mexican cartels. Some were armed with AK-47 style weapons.RELATED: PETITION CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO SECURE OUR BORDER

Below are selected photos obtained by Townhall from CBP intelligence cameras in Southern Arizona near the border with Mexico. Sensitive information has been redacted in order to protect the security and identity of the camera locations.
cross2Last week, Fox News reported sections of the border will soon become unpatrolled as hours for on-the-ground agents are cut. Townhall has learned Border Patrol agents working the border have been fully funded, yet internal political battles within CBP may be causing funds to be funneled to managers, rather than those getting their boots dirty on patrols.

“Customs and Border Protection has been given enough money to fully staff the border but has chosen to use the money elsewhere, we believe it is to fund the salaries of Supervisory CBP Officers. The money they are diverting was to go to AUO (Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime) which is actually straight pay and is used to pay Border Patrol Agents for anything past eight hours. Being that we have to maintain staffing 24/7 this is a huge part of border security. The criminals and drugs don’t stop coming so we have to make sure we have people out there. Cutting AUO will be a 30% pay cut for our agents but more importantly a minimum 20% loss of staffing out in the field,” Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council Shawn Moran tells Townhall. “It is internal politics within CBP and also with immigration reform. There are still battles between legacy Customs, INS, and Border Patrol managers as to the direction CBP takes and how the funds are being used. Meanwhile both parties claim no immigration reform until the border is secured, well this surely will not secure the border.”

As sequestration goes into full effect April 7 and a deal in Washington on immigration reform gets locked in, illegal crossings are expected to get worse.

“We have seen increased crossings and smuggling since word of staffing cuts began circulating. The illegals have even told us that is why they tried crossing. The border is safer but by no means secure,” Moran says.

Another agent expressed the same sentiment, saying when apprehended, some illegal aliens ask where they can go to find amnesty.

Despite border security being put further at risk through bad policy, the push for immigration reform well before full border security is ongoing. The AFL-CIO reached a deal with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on a guest worker program late last Friday. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said the Gang of Eight has reached a deal on immigration reform on CNN’s State of the Union over the weekend, but Republican Senator Marco Rubio has said reports of a deal are pre-mature.

DHS confirms cheaper to deport every illegal alien than allowing them to stay

by Dave Gibson
On December 3, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, Nelson Peacock, responding to request from several U.S. Senators, including Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), wrote: “Our conservative estimate suggests that ICE would require a budget of more than $135 billion to apprehend, detain and remove the nation’s entire illegal immigrant population.”
DHS

In July 2010, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released the results of a study which examined the costs of illegal immigration at the federal, state and local levels. The study found that U.S. state and local governments shell out $84.2 billion annually in various services (law enforcement, schools, social services, etc.), with California taxpayers alone, spending $21 billion on illegal aliens every year.

The same study found that $29 billion is spent every year in federal funds on illegal aliens.

So, while it would cost a one-time fee of about $135 billion to deport every single illegal alien in the country, it is actually a bargain considering the fact that it already costs us $113 billion annually to keep them here.

In other words, the mass deportation would pay for itself in a little over a year.

Incidentally, in 2007, the DHS estimated the cost of deporting all illegal aliens to be approximately $94 billion.

High cost of illegal aliens behind the wheel

Soldier out of action, thanks to unlicensed, undocumented and uninsured immigrant

by Bob UnruhWrecked-286x275

Amidst all the lobbying that will go on in Washington over the next few months over amnesty for illegal aliens, one issue probably won’t get much attention.

But Sandra Kay knows all about it. Her son, a soldier who served overseas without getting injured, is paying the costs of it – with a year of rehabilitation and probably a lifetime of pain and trouble because an illegal alien driver caused a crash that left him seriously hurt.

The driver had no license and was in a borrowed car with a lapsed insurance policy, Kay told WND. He made an illegal turn, sending Kay’s son tumbling from his motorcycle onto the highway.

Then the offender disappeared before his scheduled court appearance and the case later was resolved with a judge’s decision that probation was appropriate.

Kay’s son, Timothy, still is paying. He goes to therapy regularly for a leg “pieced together with screws and plates and rods” which still is missing a piece of bone one of the surgeons said could not be found.

“His foot is slightly turned inward and the only remedy would be for the surgeons to wait until after the year’s healing process and then go back in, re-break the leg and reset it,” Kay told WND.

Added Timothy, “I am handling a life-changing attack by going through physical therapy as scheduled. Obviously, it will be awhile before I can get back to where I was physically. Currently, I depend on my brothers to do work around the house for me and their presence is integral to me being able to function.”

He continued, “I am uncertain as to what the future holds. This admittedly will make the job search a bit more difficult. Outside work such as an electric lineman/groundman (which I consider great experience while pursuing my electrical engineering degree) will now be dependent on my recovery. As you know, it’s going slow.”

Kay admits she’s not as forgiving as her son, and she’s upset.

“[The driver] was issued a ticket for driving without a license and improper turn and given a summons for a court appearance. That is all he was ticketed with. He was released. He did not appear for his first court date and we were told he could not be found. … The court disposed of the case [with] a year’s unsupervised probation and a $250 fine. A year’s unsupervised probation and a $250 fine. He was released back out into the general population,” she told WND.

Timothy, who expressed forgiveness for the traffic crash even as he was being loaded into an ambulance, said he holds no ill will for illegal aliens.

“If they showed up at my door in need of assistance I would offer it,” he said.

However, “having said that, they need to go through the standard naturalization process the Irish, Italians, Africans, and other Hispanics have had to go through in the past,” he said. “It’s obvious the detrimental effect they have on people such as me since they choose not to abide by the law.

“Secondly, from what I’ve seen personally, they get into a construction or other industry and only hire other illegals. Since they don’t pay taxes, they don’t have to be paid as much which virtually eliminates healthy marketplace competition. Their job performance, more often that not, is shoddy at best,” he said.

“Not because they couldn’t be good at it, but because they’re not trained in it. Most of the time, the work has to be repeated several times. … I don’t buy the old line that the illegal aliens are doing jobs Americans won’t do. Anyone who loves their family will do whatever they can to take care of them,” he said.

Actually, Timothy may have been among the lucky. The Limits to Growth website reported just days ago that six-year-old Brandon Abrams was struck by a drunk-driving illegal alien who was only 17 years old.

Abrams died en route to a hospital. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Abrams was waiting on the sidewalk for an ice cream truck when 17-year-old Luis Enrique Landin reportedly dropped a cell phone while driving and reached to pick it up, losing control of his pickup truck.

The report said the impact knocked Abrams out of his black shoes.

Kay told WND she investigated the situation a little and was told Fairfax, Va., where her son’s accident happened, was a “sanctuary” for illegal aliens.

“And our ‘Republican’ leaders are going to back the amnesty the Democrats are proposing,” she said, incredulously.

WND previously compiled an entire report on illegal aliens who had caused fatal accidents.

And a report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacked a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.

Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.

There are estimates of 11 million illegal aliens in the United States, but experts say it’s simply impossible to know how many drive illegally.

And most police departments lack separate statistics on illegal aliens in traffic crashes. Neither does the federal government count those who are deported after they were caught driving illegally.

But as of last summer, the incentives to drive illegally were receding, based on President Obama’s new immigration policy for young people. His designation for them for special treatment if they’re in school or have a high school diploma and meet other requirements means in many states they are allowed to get driver’s licenses.

NPR reported on one 22-year-old who routinely drove illegally before, but after implementation of Obama’s policy obtained his license.

He said it means now not having to watch over his shoulder for police.

Obama Release of Illegals ‘An Impeachable Offense’

By Todd BeamonImpeachment

Conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh said on Wednesday that the Obama administration’s release of hundreds of illegal aliens from local jails to save money before huge budget cuts take effect was “an impeachable offense.”

“This is in direct violation of the oath of office,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “Defend and protect the Constitution of the United States and the people.

“We’re opening the doors of prisons before the sequester has even happened, before there have even been any budget cuts,” Limbaugh added. “This is so childish, except the consequences are real for people that live near these detention centers. This is in-the-ground, hard, cold reality.”

Arizona officials on Tuesday lashed out at the White House after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said they had released hundreds of illegals after the agency reviewed their cases.

The illegals were placed on supervised release, an agency spokeswoman said on Tuesday, which requires them to abide by a strict reporting schedule that may include attending appointments at regional ICE offices and telephone and electronic monitoring.

Gillian M. Christensen, the agency spokeswoman, could not specify how many detainees had been released or when the releases began — though a source told Newsmax that slightly more than 300 illegals had been released across the country since last Thursday, and all were classified as low-security threats.

About 50 immigrants were released from facilities in Pinal County, Ariz., about 70 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, the source told Newsmax.

The agency’s move there was attacked as a serious public-safety threat by Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.

“These are criminal illegals,” Babeu told Newsmax. “They were headed for deportation — but now, they have received a budget pardon.”

The immigration agency falls under Homeland Security, headed by Secretary Janet Napolitano. About $85 billion in broad government cuts are scheduled to take effect on Friday. Approximately 5.3 percent of the ICE budget would be cut.

“The president of the United States has opened up the jails,” Limbaugh declared on Wednesday. “Hundreds of illegal alien criminals have been released from illegal alien jails.

“Now, I know Obama thinks that he’s harming Republicans,” he added. “This is exacting harm on the country — and it’s entirely unnecessary. None of these so-called budget cuts are necessary. None of this panic is necessary.”

Limbaugh sympathized with Arizona officials, who long have fought the White House on immigration matters. “Apparently, Obama never gets tired of sticking it to Arizona,” he said.

“The purely cynical view is that Obama has just let loose 30,000 new Democrat voters,” Limbaugh said later in the program. “So this is how far Obama’s willing to go to try to punish this country and anybody who stands in the way of him doing and getting what he wants.”

The talk-show host also lambasted the White House for saying earlier on Wednesday that Obama and Homeland Security were not involved in the decision to release the illegals.

Jay Carney, the White House spokesman, said at a news conference reported by the Associated Press, “This was a decision made by career officials at ICE without any input from the White House, as a result of fiscal uncertainty over the continuing resolution, as well as possible sequestration.”

Homeland Security officials also were not aware of the decision until ICE announced it, Carney said.

“He’s not even in charge of his own Department of Homeland Security,” Limbaugh said of Obama. “He’s not even in charge of his own Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. All of this stuff happens; he doesn’t know anything about it.”

He then reminded listeners: “Obama didn’t know about Benghazi, either,” referring to the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

“He didn’t know about the prisoner release. He didn’t know about Benghazi. I wonder if Napolitano did that.

“A bunch of career bureaucrats did it — and what Carney tried to say was that there’s so much panic in the bureaucracies over the upcoming spending cuts, these massive spending cuts, that they’re practically panicking — and they’re doing things that nobody is aware of until they do them.

“The lengths to which they are now going to try to convince people that Barack Obama has literally no association with this government whatsoever is stunning,” Limbaugh said.

Obama cedes nat’l park to Mexicans – stretch of Arizona off limits to US Citizens

About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona along the Mexican border is closed to U.S. citizens due to increased violence in the region.

The closed off area stretches 80 miles along the border and includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. It was closed in October 2006 “due to human safety concerns,” the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday in response to news reports on the closure.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told Fox News that violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens has increased in the past four months, further underscoring the need to keep the 80 miles of border land off-limits to Americans.

The refuge had been adversely affected by the increase in drug smugglers, illegal activity and surveillance, which made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

“The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent,” said refuge manager Mitch Ellis.

“It’s literally out of control,” said Babeu. “We stood with Senator McCain and literally demanded support for 3,000 soldiers to be deployed to Arizona to get this under control and finally secure our border with Mexico. “

U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials have warned visitors in Arizona to beware of heavily armed drug smugglers and human traffickers.

“We need support from the federal government. It’s their job to secure the border and they haven’t done it,” said Babeu. “In fact, President Obama suspended the construction of the fence and it’s just simply outrageous.”

Signs have been posted warning Americans not to cross into the closed off territory south of Interstate 8. Babeu said the signs are not enough – he said Arizona needs more resources to help scale back the violence caused by the drug cartels.

“We need action. It’s shameful that we, as the most powerful nation on Earth, … can’t even secure our own border and protect our own families.”
